This is our hub for the latest Preakness Stakes results from the Triple Crown horse race at Pimlico in Baltimore. We have collated the results from recent years of this prestigious contest for three-year-old thoroughbreds, which should prove useful to you when betting on the 2024 Preakness Stakes.
Let’s take a look back at the Preakness race results over the past few years. When you see the types of horses and the barns they hail from that have triumphed at Pimlico, this can help you with this year’s edition. All this data is something oddmakers for Preakness Stakes betting sites will consider when pricing up their futures market.
He didn’t make the cut for the Kentucky Derby, but Seize The Grey proved his class and gave 88-year-old Hall of Fame trainer D Wayne Lukas a seventh success in the race. A relative longshot in Baltimore, the Pat Day Mile winner did a very different Churchill Downs and Pimlico double to normal.
What most Preakness Stakes results from 2024 won’t tell you is that Seize The Grey made most of the running on sloppy ground. He galloped on through the mud, holding off all-comers. Kentucky Derby hero Mystik Dan crossed the wire in second, just a head in front of Catching Freedom.
The front three were well clear of Tuscan Gold and the winner’s barn buddy Just Steel in fourth and fifth, respectively. Bob Baffert’s Morning Line favorite Muth saw himself scratched with a temperature, so 2024 Preakness results don’t include him. The California trainer’s other runner, Imagination, finished down the field and out of the money.
Finishing Position | Horse (Gate) | Jockey | Trainer | Morning Line Odds | Final Odds | Margin |
1st | Seize The Grey (5) | Jaime Torres | D Wayne Lukas | 15-1 | 9.80 | 2¼ lengths |

8th | Mugatu (1) | Joe Bravo | Jeff Engler | 20-1 | 17.80 | last to finish |
The second-favorite National Treasure was triumphant, according to the 2023 Preakness Stakes results. It was a close finish though, but one of the leading barns in America made history. Trainer Bob Baffert had a record eighth Preakness Stakes winner at Pimlico Race Course.
Preakness results from 2023 show National Treasure made most of the running and battled back when overtaken. He showed real grit putting his head in front at the wire and prevailing from Chad Brown runner Blazing Sevens.
Back in a clear third from Preakness Stakes results 2023 was the Kentucky Derby winner Mage. Any hopes of a Triple Crown bid ended here when he could only make the show albeit well in front of the other four Preakness Stakes horses in the field. These are the 2023 Preakness results in full:

Another second-favorite in Early Voting was the winner at Pimlico, beating market leader Epicenter by a length and a tail. He hit the front about a quarter-mile from the wire and responded to pressure. Back in third was Creative Minister.
Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike did not enter, which was only the second time since 1996 that the victor of the Churchill Downs showpiece did not run in the Preakness. The full Preakness Stakes 2022 results can be found below:

Only 10,000 spectators were allowed entry to Pimlico for the Preakness in 2021, in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. Rombauer was the winner despite being written off in many Preakness Stakes picks, getting up front in the final furlong and storming clear of Midnight Bourbon.

The Preakness Stakes schedule was all out of sync and wasn’t run until October in 2020, with the COVID-19 crisis making it impossible to hold the event in its regular May slot. No crowd was in attendance either.
Swiss Skydiver, who recorded the second fastest time ever, was a rare female winner of the Preakness with the filly holding on by a neck from the favorite Authentic. The front two were well clear of another close battle between the third and fourth with Jesus’ Team edging out Art Collector. Here are the Preakness final results from 2020:

American Pharoah’s Preakness win gave him the second leg of his Triple Crown triumph in 2015. He went on Grand Slam glory by adding the Breeders’ Cup Classic to his resume.
In the Preakness, American Pharoah kept it real simple by making most of the running. The rest of the field just couldn’t live with the superstar thoroughbred from the Bob Baffert barn.
American Pharoah more than justified his status as a strong favourite in the Preakness Stakes odds with a comfortable success. He won by seven lengths.
Tale Of Verse took second spot ahead of Diving Rod with American Pharoah’s stable buddy Dortmund missing the show. Here are the complete Preakness Stakes results 2015 in order:
Finishing Position | Horse (Gate) | Jockey | Trainer | Morning Line Odds | Final Odds | Margin |
1st | American Pharoah (1) | Victor Espinoza | Bob Baffert | 4-5 | 0.90 | 7 lengths |

If you’re looking to predict Preakness results today for the 2024 race, then the past results have to be considered. All sorts of trends become clear when you start to analyse past results.
So, for example, from the recent results that we have shown you, the favorite has only won on two occasions. Those were both horses who went on to complete the Triple Crown, but more bids have failed for that than succeeded. When learning how to bet on Preakness Stakes, these are things that can help you make your picks.
Bob Baffert not only holds the record for winningest trainer in the Preakness Stakes with eight victories, but three of those have come since 2015. Arkansas Derby winner Muth may thus be a leading contender this year for the barn, who cannot have runners in the Kentucky Derby but don’t have any such ban applying to Pimlico’s big race.
In 2023 the Preakness was won by National Treasure, with Blazing Sevens finishing second and the favorite Mage making the show in third.
The Preakness Stakes, like the other two races either side of that make up the Triple Crown, are open to three-year-olds only.
To recap, the most recent edition of the Preakness in 2023 saw National Treasure win, ahead of Blazing Sevens in second and Mage in third.
The 2024 Preakness Stakes will be run on Saturday, May 18. As is the tradition for this race, the date is the third Saturday in May.
