Horse racing fans and bettors should study the Muth horse profile in the build-up to the Preakness Stake for a very good reason. The Bob Baffert runner WAS the one to beat ahead of the May 18 Pimlico race with the leading US racebooks – but will now MISS the race due to a high temperature.

However, despite being scratched from the race Muth might be a horse not every racing fan is familiar with. So, let’s fill in some gaps and tell you a bit more about this year’s Arkansas Derby winner and where the Bob Baffert runner run next.

Muth WAS The Horse Hoping To Give Trainer Bob Baffert His Nineth Preakness Stakes Win

As the build-up to the middle leg of the Triple Crown series continues, the Preakness Stakes odds tell us Muth WAS the horse all the others have to beat. However, having travelled over from the Baffert barn he was found to have a high temperature and will now MISS THE RACE.

"MuthThis Good Magic colt was trading odds-on with most of the best US racebooks and it wasn’t hard to see why.

The first plus in Muth’s corner was that he would have headed to the Preakness Stakes fresher than most after not running in the Kentucky Derby (more on that below). Having been seen last on March 30 winning the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park.

Therefore, this Zedan Racing Stables-owned 3 year-old has had around six week to freshen up as he looks to add to the $1.5m prize haul he’s already racked up.

Muth would have also been representing last year’s Preakness winning trainer Bob Baffert, who is the winning-most barn in the history of this Pimlico contest.

Baffert has mopped up eight Black-Eyed Susan wins over his career, including Triple Crown winners Justify (2018) and American Pharoah (2015). While last year his National Treasure scrapped home by a head under jockey John R. Velazquez to take his tally to eight.

The good news for Baffert is that he still has the Frankie Dettori-ridden Imagination in the Preakness Stakes.
